Song: Sometimes Never

Overall Impression

Australian band Dell Webb Explosion serve up a heavy dose of soul-drenched retro-rock, on their release of "Sometimes Never". Frantic verses are balanced out by a reflective chorus on this uptempo track, which features a straight-forward rock sound bolstered by an incendiary horn section that really drives the tune. Passionate male vocals tell a tale of manic restlessness, displaying a soulful vulnerability with an aspirational hook that serves as a compelling plea for spiritual guidance and intervention. Del Webb Explosion's "Sometimes Never" should appeal to a wide range of audiences, thanks to its blend of raw rock'n'roll energy and emotional pop sensibilities.

Strongest Point(s)

Excellent production and a great sounding mix. Fantastic soul-rock sound, love the contrast of clean brass with distorted guitars. Great horn arrangement with plenty of variety. Nice solos as well. Solid straight-ahead rock groove, bass and drums are working well together. Killer vocal performance with a blue-eyed soul delivery that's just the right amount of passionate and over-the-top, harmonies sound great in the chorus. Another great contrast here, is the verse/chorus dynamic. The verses have a great fervent intensity to them that's reflected in the music, while the choruses feel much more melodic and inviting. This is a tremendous track overall and should have very little problem attracting an audience, particularly amongst soul-rock and retro-rock enthusiasts, with its big, brassy and boisterous barroom sound.
